Minecraft 1.4.2 is out and its loaded with a bunch of new features. This guide will show you almost everything you need to know about the "Pretty Scary" update!

Wither skeleton skulls are obtained as a rare drop from wither skeletons. The other heads are only found in the creative inventory.
Wither Skeleton skulls are used for spawning a Wither.

Carrots and Potatoes

Carrots and potatoes are rare drops from Zombies and can be planted and harvest to make food.
Carrots can be used as a crafting item to make Carrot on a Stick and a Golden Carrot. Eating a carrot restores 4 health.
Potatoes restore 1 health and baked potatoes restore 6 health.

Wither - Boss

Drops: Nether Star
A floating, three headed mob with a skeletal appearance.
Upon being spawned, the Wither will grow larger and its health bar will fill up to full. When this state ends, the Wither will create a large explosion around itself and will be off to kill everything it sees (except undead mobs).
How to spawn a Wither:
Place four soulsand in the same formation you would to create an iron golem (t-shape)
Then place three wither skeleton skulls on top each three upper blocks. Once the last head is placed, the Wither will spawn. RUN!

Witches

Drops: Glass bottle, Glowstone Dust, Gunpowder, Redstone Dust, Spider Eye, Stick, Sugar, Water Bottle
Rare Drops: Potion of Healing, Potion of Fire Resistance, Potion of Swiftness
Witches attack the player with splash potions.
The witch mobs attacks with splash potions of poison, weakness, damage, and slowness.
You can find this mob mostly in swamp huts.

Wither Skeleton

Drops: Coal, Bone
Rare Drops: Wither Skeleton Skull, Stone Sword
Wither Skeletons naturally spawn in Nether Fortresses.
Wither Skeletons spawn 80% of the time when using skeleton eggs in the Nether.
They carry stone swords and have a high attack strength. If you are hit by a Wither Skeleton, they will inflict the "Wither" effect for 10 seconds which darkens your health bar.
Their rare skull drops are used for creating the Wither boss.

Bats

Bats are pretty much useless.
They are found naturally in large dark caverns.
